Such an amazing change in scenery for just a few hours drive north of Cairns. We headed up with the Spences to Mount Molloy - a nice little freecamp, where we picked up the most enormous burgers I have ever eaten. And a few new birds the Spangled Drongo and the ... and a wallaby on my walk. We also got the name of the Blackbean, a forest tree we had been hunting the name of since Mission Beach, where Terry and Merrilee had given us a pod and a quest!
I had another holiday from the holiday... And what a wonderful weekend it was! My old (as me!) uni mate Greg celebrated his 40th in Manly on the weekend of 22 July and I flew in on the Saturday and back to Cairns on the Sunday night. Thanks: Greg; for the invite and chance to catch up with old mates from Newcastle Med and Sydney Medical Science days, and also to hear lots of lovely stories about you that I have never heard!, Kath; for the spectacular B&B accomodation and Lindy and Lloyd; for transport and gossip. Lovely to see you all!
Yesterday we went to Green Island and we went on a big boat. We went snorkelling on the beach. It was awesome to snorkel for my first time on the Great Barrier Reef. We saw lots of fish and coral and I saw a big one in a hole. It was white with red stripes.
After about 2 months within about 200km radiaus from Byron Bay we covered nearly 1000 in a week to get from the Sunshine Coast to Cairns to catch up with the Spences!
Our first full day was fantastic. As I had decided it was a "real" holiday the boys easily negotiated some cartoons in the morning (after I had returned from cleaning up the beach). Isaac, Sascha and I did some
I was a little apprehensive about driving on Fraser Island, having never done any sand work before... |
