After about 2 months within about 200km radiaus from Byron Bay we covered nearly 1000 in a week to get from the Sunshine Coast to Cairns to catch up with the Spences!
Tolerated Airlie Beach... was a bit of a tourist trap and we were all feeling pretty squabbly. Rockhampton Botanical Gardens get an honourable mention - free and great zoo and playground as well as lovely gardens.
One night at the National Park at Smalley's Beach was really pretty and where Paul bent the caravan around a tree. A lesson painfully, but thankfully not expensively, learned; that one should not drink coffee, take a biscuit your wife offers you, talk and generally be smug, while driving one handed out of a heavily wooded campsite around an acute angled corner!
Loved Townsville - which got its own post. Skippos roadside stall north of Townsville was also super - thanks Denise, Ann and Helen for the headsup. Skippo sold great fresh produce and then cut up some fresh sugar cane and coconut for us whilst telling us about his life as a cane harvester.
Mission Beach - pretty. Amazing to see how much damage the cyclone did. We picked up coconuts at the beach! A great walk with Dom in the morning where we saw some beautiful shells and a stingray. No cassowaries to date, however.
