Talk about lifestyles of the rich and famous!! .... Do their kids have tantrums too?
Kath, Ella and Jake made a surprise visit to us up in far north Queensland. Well, surprise to the kids anyway, who were absolutely chuffed to see their cousins as we went to "check out the pool" at our new digs! Isaac's "What??!!" reaction was really priceless. His face went all red and he looked like he needed to sit down for a while, but revived himself with kisses and cuddles with his wet cousins!
We spent three delicious nights sharing a two bathroom, three bedroom apartment. The first day focussed solely on the pool. The second with a bit of Four Mile Beach action for me in the early morning and the lovely Port Douglas markets for all of us for the rest of the morning. Highlights - fresh coconuts - drink the water through a straw (Hello. I AM in the TROPICS!) then come back to have them cracked open and served with a ripe organic banana and honey and tuck in with a spoon. Yum!!! Then a follow up beverage of freshly squeezed sugar cane juice with lime, ginger or mint. I had lime and ginger and it was the bomb!
Got a few lovely hand woven toys and a fruit bowl made out of coconut leaves, a funny Star Wars T-shirt each for Paul and Andrew, and a new hat for me and my day was pretty complete.

Next day we took off to Mossman Gorge and enjoyed a lovely walk/run with some spectacular and truly freezing mountain stream swimming. Also we sort of enjoyed seeing the cane field fires. It is iconic and they tell me still the done thing in flood irrigated cane fields but it does seem like such a waste of good cane mulch!!
We had our first taste of 8 in the caravan that night at the Big 4 in Port Douglas. There were some frayed tempers all round but on the whole a success!

Having not had enough of the Daintree, after packing up and leaving the van in Port Douglas the next day,we headed back for more. Our catches of the day were seeing the Big Barramundi and Ahn Do and his family on holiday! (Paul's catch from a day or so prior was Bob Katter and his enormous hat outside of Coles in Port Douglas.) We also scoffed 2 courses of organic, biodynamic icecream from Floravilla Icecream Factory that my sister and her family had been raving on about since their last visit there a year ago. There were some fairly high expectations that were not unmet!! Voted best of the day: Paul's coffee hazelnut and Isaac's ginger chocolate. MMMmmmm!! And of course, the Daintree itself was not too bad either! We all really enjoyed the Daintree Discovery Centre and would have spent longer there had we not had a need to get back to Cairns via the icecreams at a semi-reasonable hour...
