Green Island - by Sascha

Yesterday we went to Green Island and we went on a big boat.  We went snorkelling on the beach.  It was awesome to snorkel for my first time on the Great Barrier Reef.  We saw lots of fish and coral and I saw a big one in a hole.  It was white with red stripes.

Then we went back to the big boat and I had extra evil sandwiches.  They were white bread with butter and salami!  It was yummy  because I hadn't had some white bread sandwiches for a long time.
After lunch, we went on the semi submarine, which is a boat that has seats under the water with glass windows so you can look out under water. I saw three turtles, one of them was eating sea grass. We saw a big fish called Fred, he was a giant trevally and he kept on following us and looking at us through the glass. When Fred is fully grown he gets to be two metres long and can swim at 100km/h! That's about as fast as our car on the freeway.
On the semi sub, our lips looked blue. That's because the water filters out the red light. When you go down 10 metres, if you cut your foot, you will bleed brown blood.
In the afternoon, we went snorkelling again at a different beach. It didn't have much coral, but it had more fish. I went out to deeper water with mum, and I held on to a floating thing that's there so you can have a rest. I wasn't tired.

When we were going back to Cairns, we saw an Osprey in it's nest. It was in a light pole.
It was a fun day!

Love the Green Island story Sasch, loved Green Island when I was there about 45 years ago or more. They didn't have the semi sub then only glass bottomed boats. But what a beautiful place.
