It was a busy one, but leaving day had a number of small and large victories. We packed and culled and thinned and then took extra, filled, and plumped, all by morning tea time.
We managed to sell the Prius, our tax returns arrived for perusal, and we picked up the land rover with it’s new off road acoutrements, two of which mean that we will be able to eat for the next few weeks!
After hitching up the van, (and finding that the anderson plugs didn’t match), we made a quick trip to the very helpful boys at Mannell Motors (no endorsement recieved) and they rigged up a connector so we could get on the road, with power!
It was nearly 1600hrs by then, and we had a bit of driving before bed, so we headed down the motorways and didn’t stop for dinner until Goulburn. We had a great meal of wood fired pizza, fresh juice and a little something to follow, before getting back on the road. As we turned onto the road out of town, we heard bagpipes playing in the park and doubled back to find a band of pipers standing in a circle practicing. The sun was setting, but it was so nice to think, “well, we are on holiday” and we lay on the grass and listened for a while while the kids ran amok in the playground.

When we’re in the car, and a conversation is going that one of the kids want to interrupt to point out something we are passing, they can say “beep beep” and get our attention quickly so we don’t miss what they are interested in. Neither Emma, nor I were paying attention to what was outside the car when we heard Isaac say “beep beep, big sheep!” Out the window to our left was a massive merino about three stories high. I had totally forgotten about Goulburn’s big merino, so we had another short stop so the boys could take some photos. Dom had a mini meltdown when he found out he hadn’t seen the “balls”, but we showed him a photograph and he seemed happy enough with that.
We pressed on to the EPIC campground in Canberra to choose the perfect site in the dark, at about 2200hrs. A great first day!
