To the kids it is already becoming known as the place with the great toilets, but it was more than that...
It was a very hot place with great toilets, terrible roads, great rock formations and great acoustics! We spent 2 nights at the caravan park 50 km away from the Bungle Bungles. We were feeling glad that we had purchased some decent hats from the Doon Doon roadhouse the day before, where it was 39 C.
Despite great intentions we left about an hour later than we would have liked (Honestly, how long can it take a child to get dressed and eat breakfast?) and it was starting to warm up for the day. Plenty of audiobook action did help ease the driving burden of the day, which was significant. After reaching the visitor centre, there was an extra 24 km to the south and another 20km back to the north and so on during the day. I did a couple of hours and after the usual "Don't criticise my driving if you want me to do it" fights, things went along just fine!
Our only real achievement was the Dome and Cathedral walks. Paul sang a couple of numbers in the Cathedral much to the enjoyment of the grey hairs, and me, (Blackbird, Sea Fever, Silent Worship). The nomads felt like they owned us after that. "That's our boy..are you the guy that sang?...etc." Many comments back at camp by the fans... even in Fitzroy Crossing there were a few!
We drove to Echidna Chasm, but it was 39 degrees by then and we were happy to have enjoyed the views from the air conditioned car!
