Launceston airport was our first point of call as Emma was ditching us again to meet up with Juli and her family, who were out from SF California. The boys and I waved (waived) her off, and headed up the Tamar Valley to Beauty Point.
The Boys were really keen to do a bit of fishing, so fish we did. We didn't catch anything, but on the whole it was a positive experience, no snags and no hooks in the eye. We were right next to platypus world on the wharf, but it was closed, so we fished.
The next day, we decamped and moved to Longford just out of Launceston, to be closer to the airport when Emma returned, and to save a few bob. The Macquarie river flowed by at the edge of the caravan park, and we did fish there too but met with a lot less success. Everyone lost their hooks, but still no hooks in the eye.
The weather really warmed up, and the boys and I headed into town for a bit of lunch and to see the sights. After we had eaten, we were strolling down the mall in the middle of Launceston, when we were approached by a photographer who asked me if I minded him taking a couple of shots of the boys holding icecreams. I said that was OK and he disappeared across the road and came back with three soft serve cones for the boys. They duly dripped, in the 30 degree heat, and the man said to "check out the Examiner tomorrow". I forgot all about it, but we got a text from the Spences the next day, after they bought the newspaper, so we had to go and get three copies, one for each journal.

We picked Emma uplater that evening, and I think all the boys were pretty happy to have her back in the unit again. She was just getting going in the caravan in the morning when I heard an OMG! She had looked out the door to see our neighbour from Newcastle in the caravan park! The Blanch family had decided to take a tour of Tasmania for a week and just happened to wind up in the same caravan park as us at Longford. It was great for the boys to catch up with some people from home, and most of the morning was spent with them playing together, while school work took a back seat.
To round our time out in Launceston, we headed over to Cataract Gorge, and spent a lovely rainy afternoon, seeing the sights and doing a little walk around the basin, across the swinging bridge. The boys were pretty impressed with the chairlift, the longest single span chairlift in the world! We spotted a few birds, and even a guy crazy enough to be doing a couple of laps across the water. It was a little chilly for my taste that day!
