Western Australia!!!
We left Keep River fairly early in the morning, crossed the border into WA and gained an extra one and a half hours in the morning. That gave us an opportunity, not to be missed, of to having a second morning tea when we arrived in Kununurra!
After a quick trip to the Visitor's Centre to pick up some brochures and a look at the outside of Kununurra Library we needed some lunch. Isaac has been on about "eating a pie in Western Australia" since Queensland so that was on the cards as a bit of a junk food celebration for our first meal! I took the boys to the library for school and to dive into some reading. It was wonderful! New, incredibly well stocked, and COOL! All we needed for a bit of school with less displeasure! While we were working, Dom and Paul scored the best campsite of the trip so far: right on Lake Kununurra, on an oasis of well-watered, soft, bindi-free, green grass. Something that hasn't been experienced in what seems like forever! Sunrises and sunsets were dutifully enjoyed and photographed with varying degrees of success. Unfortunately there was quite the bushfire on our first night which left all our clean clothes with a spectacularly smoky odour and the sky pretty murky for the days after.

Thus we set the course for our stay in Kununurra. The library was the centrepoint and the boys (and I, as School Ma'am, and Doctor trying to do a little study) performed admirably. Paul and Dom were there for some of the time, but a bit of restocking was also required, after dumping all our fruit and veg coming into the Ord River Irrigation Area and being about to head back out into the absence of shops for a while. When not there, we were enjoying our campsite or the pool. Only on one day did we not enjoy our surroundings. The boys were absolute ratbags one morning when we had to pack up and move to another site in the park. It was noted to be our worst ever pack up. Paul and I were not in good parental form by any stretch of the imagination either! I think we were all a bit tired. We had been burning the candle a bit at both ends after changing time zones and it had caught up with us.
It was not for a want of things to do that we did nothing. There are spectacular tourist options to fill more than a week. We are a bit short of cash but just really loved NOT seeing stuff for a while! Our one splurge was on a lovely dining experience down on the water at the Pumphouse, on Paul's friend Nick's recommendation. Isaac loved his food that was NOT from the kids menu! We all enjoyed the atmosphere, catfish, croc, funny decorations, history and of course the sunset. The entire Library staff even turned up to bid us farewell!! I'd had a heads up about the insects outside and booked our table indoors to avoid the "midgets" as Dom calls them.
Our exit was superb the next day! Prepacking the night before was the ticket and paved the way for an early entry into El Questro and time for an action packed day, even on a moving day!
